She had been married from the age of 18. It was a marriage which was convenient, not always exciting, but very reliable all the same. Carrie was the wife of a man called Harry. And he was a manager of a chain of restaurants. Now at 42 Carrie had been faithful for 24 years. She had also not made love in over 4 years.
This was not so much of a problem on most days. Her marriage was a loveless one but not an un-happy one. In this day and age after all - reliability was something to be settled for. But something was different. Carrie was visiting her sister Louise in London - without Harry. He did not like Louise and had decided to stop at home. And it was on this trip that she had first met Andrew. He had been working in a bar that she had been taken to by her sister and was a friend of . He was not from London himself, and was travelling around the country. That appealed to her immensely, as someone who desperately lacked and longed for adventure in her life. When Andrew had asked her to come for a look around his river barge the next day, she'd happily accepted. They'd only really just met but she knew straight away that here was a guy she could really have fallen for at one time - or, as she tried to push to the back of her mind, maybe could once more? |
